# Edit captions

> Review caption text, timing, styling, and animation in Studio.

Captions should help people follow the spoken content without competing with the video.

## Review the words first

Correct transcription mistakes, names, punctuation, and line breaks before polishing the animation.

Listen to the audio while checking the caption timeline. A visually neat caption that appears on the wrong word is still wrong.

## Adjust timing

Move or trim caption segments so the text follows the speech. Keep enough words together to make sense, but avoid leaving a large paragraph on screen.

## Adjust the design

Choose type, size, placement, contrast, and emphasis that remain readable across the footage.

Use a restrained style for normal subtitles. Use expressive word-level animation when the caption itself is part of the visual storytelling.

* Watch with sound.
* Watch once with sound muted.
* Check important words against cuts and overlays.
* Check the caption position over every background.
* Confirm the final caption disappears cleanly.
